Brentford line up Iceland international ‘keeper as interest in Daniel Bentley steps up

According to the Daily Mail, Brentford could lose goalkeeper Daniel Bentley in the summer transfer window and are eyeing up Icelandic international Runar Alex Runarsson as a potential replacement.

The Daily Mail writes that after a step up in interest in ‘keeper Daniel Bentley, Brentford could lose their number one shot stopper in the summer. Now, with worries increasing over Bentley’s future, they have identified goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson as a potential replacement.

Bentley has impressed during his time at Griffin Park since joining in 2016 from League One side Southend United. The 25-year-old has played 120 games for the Bees over the course of two and a half seasons at Griffin Park. However, with interest in his services growing, Brentford could have to come to terms with the possibility of his departure.

He reportedly turned down a contract extension at the end of last year, so Brentford could look to sell him at the end of this season to make sure they receive as much money for him as possible, rather than losing him for nothing once his deal runs out.

Runar Alex Runarrson has seemingly been identified as his replacement. The Bees reportedly made enquiries regarding the 23-year-old during the January transfer window and they could look to make a move if Bentley heads out the door.

The Icelandic ‘keeper started his career in Reykjavik with his local side before joining Danish side FC Nordsjælland in 2015. After three successful years in Denmark, the five-time Iceland international moved to French side Dijon, where he has played 19 times this season, keeping five clean sheets.
